Job Summary


The Fleet Services Garage - Mechanic A is responsible for performing all repairs, servicing and up fitting on all types of vehicles.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repairs, servicing and up fitting on all types of vehicles (cars, light truck, medium and heavy trucks, and truck trailers) including mounted vehicle attachments (cranes, Hirail, and gensets) and material handling equipment
  • Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, and other vehicle repair tools to perform repairs
  • Record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures

Working Conditions


  • Perform outdoors at terminals or indoors, in the field and shop environment in various types of weather and environmental conditions
  • Available to work variable shifts to accommodate vehicle availability may be required
  • Available for prolonged stay away from home when performing necessary fieldwork

Experience


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the Heavy-Duty or Commercial Transport repair trade

Education/Certification/Designation


  • Valid Provincial Department of Labour Journeyman Certificate in the Heavy-Duty or Commercial Transport Mechanical Repair Trade
  • Additional Mechanic Certification (Automotive Mechanic Journeyman Certificate)*
  • Valid Provincial driver's licence
  • Air endorsement and drivers license class upgrade*

Technical Skills/Knowledge


  • Must be able to pass the current Mechanic "A" test
  • Capable of certifying company equipment in accordance with Provincial and regulatory standards
  • Must be capable of servicing and repairing various types of Hirail equipment
  • Capable of operating all types of vehicles and equipment serviced in the garage
  • Required to have own basic hand tools sufficient to perform repairs and servicing to all types of fleet equipment

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset

The incumbent receives on the job training and is rolled out over a period of 2 to 3 months.This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement.
