Job Summary


The incumbent performs facilities maintenance and repairs to buildings, equipment, and related systems across company locations while serving as the lead hand by coordinating daily work, providing technical guidance, supporting safe work execution, and acting as the primary point of contact for the crew.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, reactive and preventative maintenance of facilities buildings, equipment and installations as well as repairs and other project work
  • Coordinate with Lead Hand Electrician, Facilities Supervisor, contractors, other CN departments as well as other vendors for assistance or direction as required upon various types of work
  • Coordinate and assign daily work to crew members based on operational priorities, employee qualifications, and available resources
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job support to crew members while promoting consistent work practices
  • Monitor work progress and compliance with safety requirements, escalate issues, and communicate status updates to the Facilities Supervisor

Working Conditions


  • Position is subject to responding to emergency calls on nights and weekends as required by the Supervisor and Lead Hand
  • The role is required to work inside and outside in various conditions
  • The role is required to work at heights, confined spaces, and any other areas work is required
  • Must service driven as the role works with all departments throughout CN
  • Must be safety conscious and capable of ensuring a safe working environment for employees and contractors
  • The role requires working away from home for extended periods of time
  • The incumbent must be available to work overtime when necessary

Experience


  • Experience performing corrective, reactive, and preventive electrical maintenance and repairs on buildings, equipment, and related systems
  • Experience troubleshooting power distribution, emergency power, and high-voltage electrical systems using electrical drawings
  • Experience coordinating electrical maintenance or project work with supervisors, contractors, internal departments, and vendors
  • Experience coordinating and assigning daily work to tradespeople based on priorities, qualifications, and available resources
  • Experience providing technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job support to crew members
  • Experience monitoring work progress, supporting compliance with safety requirements, and communicating issues and status updates to a supervisor

Education/Certification/Designation


  • Must hold a recognized electrician trade certification or license that meets applicable federal, state, provincial, or local requirements
  • Must hold, or be willing and able to obtain, a valid driver's license appropriate to the work location and equipment operated

Technical Skills/Knowledge


  • Must be able to read and understand electrical drawings for various types of repair work, maintenance, project work and troubleshooting
  • Must have a good working knowledge of power distribution and emergency power systems including high voltage
